At Art League RI, we curate exhibitions of collaborative science-based artwork made through the Synergy Project. The Synergy Experience is comprised of these exhibitions and interactive events. So far, we have exhibited Synergy artists in eight exhibitions around Rhode Island, and are currently working on the newest iteration of the Synergy Experience, Resurfacing.

The original exhibition, Below the Surface, is a collaboration between Art League RI (ALRI) and the Woods Hole Oceanographic Institution (WHOI) that joins artists and scientists together to create unique works of art based in science.

Below the Surface II is the newest exhibition in the project. This is a juried exhibition made up of work by artists from around the country inspired by ideas seen in the original Below the Surface exhibition.

  • The Exploration Zone

    The Synergy Project participated in the Exploration Zone at Ocean Live Park at Fort Adams, Newport, RI, from May 13 – May 21, 2023.

  • Falmouth Art Center

    The Synergy Project returned to the Falmouth Art Center with Synergy Part II, which featured artwork from both Below the Surface and Below the Surface II. The exhibit ran January 6 – January 30, 2023.

  • URI Feinstein Providence Campus Gallery

    Below the Surface and Below the Surface II were on display together at the University of Rhode Island’s Feinstein Providence Campus Gallery in Providence, RI. The exhibit ran July 5th – 28th, 2022.

  • Art League RI Gallery

    Below the Surface II was displayed for the first time at the Art League RI Gallery in Pawtucket, RI. The exhibit ran June 1st – 27th, 2022.

  • Virtual Exhibit Night

    Synergy: Below The Surface held its own virtual exhibit which featured presentations by the participants. It took place on October 21st, 2021.

  • Falmouth Art Center

    Synergy: Below the Surface had it’s first exhibit at the Falmouth Art Center in Falmouth, MA. The exhibit ran April 30th – May 31st, 2021.
